About
the Bushnell Building
Commissioned by Governor Asa S. Bushnell, the Bushnell Building has been a Downtown Springfield landmark since 1893. With its elegant Renaissance Revival façade, carved terra-cotta details, and storied past, the Bushnell remains a cornerstone of downtown.
From its early days housing banks, retailers, and law firms – including the office where Wright Brothers patents were filed – to its revival by James and Nike Lagos in the 1990s, the building blends heritage and modern innovation.
As one of only ten National Historic Register buildings in the U.S. with Platinum LEED certification, the Bushnell Building proves that sustainability and history can go hand in hand.
